Jiri to Everest Base Camp - the classic Everest Trek

22 Days | Trek: 18 Days | Lodge or Camp | Maximum altitude: 5545 m | Minimum: 1 Person

This is a classic route to the Everest Base Camp. It was used by the first expeditions to Mount Everest in very early days, including Tenzing Norgay, Sir Edmund Hillary and great expedition groups at that time. You get more chance for acclimatization by following this route.

Everest Base Camp Trek, Nepal

From Kathmandu, we drive for 7 to 8 hours to Jiri and continue further ahead to village at Shivalaya. The trial to Lukla passes through classic Middle Hills country. Facilities on the first part are basic but improving. Even though the trek begins at just 1860m it climbs to 3530m at the Lamjura Bhanjyang and drops as low as 1500m at the Dudh Kosi crossing east of Nunthala. After we reach below Phakding, we follow the reular route to the Everest Base Camp. Tbe trek ends in Lukla from where we fly out.

This is the route to take if you are not in hurry and have about three weeks time to explore the Mount Everest region in its full glory.

The trek can be organized and is enjoyable throughout the year.

The best seasons are spring (Mar to May) and autumn (Oct to Nov) but they also attract a large number of trekkers from many countries. If you want to avoid busy season then you might want to trek in other months.

It is monsoon during July/August with late rain often affecting September too. Flights out of Lukla can be delayed or cancelled frequently so you will need some extra days just in case. Otherwise, the area itself is very less affected and treks at this time are beautiful as ever.

We run a number of treks every year that you can join. Do not worry even if you do not find these dates suitable to you. We let small groups and even single trekkers to pick their own dates.
