Manaslu Expedition - 2018 Autumn

8163m, Nepal | World Rank: 8th Highest Mountain | Duration: 49 Days | Route: South West Ridge | Grade 5D

The world's 8th highest mountain, Manaslu lies on the border between Gorkha and Manang districts in northern Nepal and 64 km east of Annapurna. The Manaslu region encompasses the sub-tropical foothills of the Himalaya to the arid Trans-Himalayan high pastures bordering Tibet.

The Japanese were the first to successfully summit Manaslu - on On May 09, 1956, Toshio Imanishi and Gyaltsen Norbu reached the summit. The summit of Manaslu offers breathtaking views of Ganesh Himal, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhare - mostly poking through the clouds.

Manaslu Expedition can take place in two seasons - Spring and Autumn. For Spring expeditions, our choice is to start on first week of April and set the final summit push during early May. That gives us best shot on stable weather and safer snow conditions.

In autumn, we start on early September when monsoon in Nepal is towards its end. By the time we arrive at the base camp and attempt the summit, the weather is expected to be suitable for climb.

08 April to 27 May 2019 (Spring expedition)
